The Forgotten Christian Holiday
As we open this holiday season we tend to forget the true meaning of the season. Usually we associate this cliche with Christmas, but I wanted to write on what I would call the Forgotten Christian Holiday. Thanksgiving has been long celebrated as the time that we give thanks for all that we have. Originally it was for a plentiful harvest, but these days we associate it more with our family, our health, and our jobs among other things. But who or what are we giving thanks to? Of course the answer is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. The Pilgrims were always known to have raised their hands to thank God for their life in the new world, but as the excerpt to the left tells us, President George Washington and even more surprisingly, the U.S. Legislature, mandated a day of thanks and prayer in which we would look to the "Lord and Ruler of all Nations" forgiveness of our transgressions and wisdom to "develop a Constitutions of government." It was our government that said, "WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour." Let us remember this day and follow our forefathers wisdom, giving thanks to he is who is on High for our families, our freedoms, and in everything that we know only Jesus Christ is able to provide.
